DFWSEM: State of Search 2017 – Conference Recap

Earlier this week, I attended the State of Search conference for the second time in the last three years, hosted by the Dallas-Fort Worth Search Engine Marketing Association (DFWSEM) in Dallas, Texas. Over the course of the two day show, the agenda covered a variety of hot topics ranging from search engine optimization, content marketing, paid search and social, to organic social media marketing. While my focus was set on paid search and social sessions, I also popped in to other sessions to stay up to date on other best practices, gather ideas to share with clients that may benefit them in areas outside of advertising, and learn tactics that I could potentially implement within my own business.  In addition to acquiring knowledge from some top notch speakers, I caught up properly with a number of friends and industry peers, had some invaluable one on one’s, and made several great new connections.

How To Volunteer Your Skills

It’s that time of the year when giving thanks and giving back seem to be popular discussion topics. While it is wonderful, why not make it a year-round occurrence? There are an incredible amount of opportunities out there that need someone like you to occasionally lend a hand. If you’re looking for a way to give back to an organization or cause you support, there are many things you can do. If the role doesn’t exist, create it.

Freelancing: My First Year

And just like that, it’s been one whole revolution around the sun. Until this past year, I didn’t know exactly what I was capable of and as I sit here writing this, gently smiling, I’m beginning to realize. That doubt I previously had, began fading some time between now and last fall. Adding on to previous experiences, I’ve learned an incredible amount about marketing, advertising, business as a whole, finances, behaviors, other people, and myself, more so than ever before. I’m beyond grateful for the opportunities, experiences, lessons, and relationships that flourished since taking this leap. And as you may recall, the first few months were a wobbly roller-coaster and I’m pleased to say, I think that coaster is headed on the right track. While it’s an ever evolving ride, I look forward to what the next turn brings.

Facebook Remarketing for Post-Trial Conversions

Does your organization or client offer free trials of their products or services? If so, chances are, some users for one reason or another have not renewed or purchased the said offering once the trial concluded. Of course, as an advertiser, your goal is to guide these users into converting as ongoing customers.

Taking The Leap: 6 Months In

Time sure flies, doesn’t it? It feels as though I just began freelancing full time yesterday, and here we are now, six months later. As I write that, it truly sets in. I’ve often thought about how much time has passed since November, but writing it out makes it real. These last six month have been nothing short of fulfilling work related bliss. During Steve Jobs’ frequently quoted Stanford commencement address back in 2005, he spoke words that have resonated with me since; don’t settle until you are doing what you love. I’ve made it this far and I am excited to see what the next half of the year has in store.

#StateOfSearch 2014: Conference Key Takeaways

IMG_9953Last week, I had an absolute pleasure attending the State of Search conference for the first time in Dallas, which was hosted by DFWSEM and powered by Bing Ads. After taking a week to gather my thoughts, go through many pages of notes, and apply newly learned strategies to client campaigns, I’m feeling incredibly refreshed and inspired. The show provided an open forum for discussion amongst marketing peers and a highly effective and intimate learning environment. It was a delight seeing familiar faces and meeting many new ones as well!
